Breast augmentation surgery (augmentation mammaplasty) involves the surgical placement of silicone or saline breast implants to add volume, fullness, and symmetry to a womanâs breasts. Women elect to undergo breast augmentation surgery for a number of diverse reasons, such as:
- Increase breast size
- Replenish lost volume after pregnancy, breast feeding or weight loss
- Correct asymmetrical breasts (breasts of different sizes)
- Reconstruct a more natural breast shape and size after mastectomy (or double mastectomy)
In order to achieve the best possible results from your breast augmentation surgery, this procedure should only be performed by a Board Certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Farbod Esmailian, whose private practice in Los Alamitos, CA serves patients in the greater Los Angeles area, including Newport Beach and Orange County. Dr. Esmailian has extensive experience performing all variations of breast surgeries, and has helped many patients to successfully enhance the appearance of their breasts with breast augmentation procedures.
BREAST AUGMENTATION PROCEDURAL OPTIONS
Breast implants are offered in a wide range of profiles, textures, sizes, and shapes, in order to create a variety of unique and customizable looks. Although selecting the ideal implant type, size and profile for your augmentation surgery may seem overwhelming, Dr. Esmailian will patiently guide you throughout your decision-making process, thoroughly addressing your concerns, and making sure that you are completely comfortable with the implants you have selected.
In addition to the choices about the type of implant, the breast augmentation procedure itself is customizable, with options regarding implant placement and incision placement. Implants can either be placed under the chest muscle (submuscular) or between the chest muscle and breast tissue (submammary/subglandular). The incisions for a breast augmentation procedure can be made in one of four locations:
- Below the breast curve (inframammary)
- Around the lower half of the areola (periareolar)
- In the underarm region (transaxillary)
- Encircling the navel (transumbilical /TUBA)
Breast augmentation surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation and typically lasts 1-2 hours, although the exact timing can vary, depending upon the nature of the surgery, and whether a complementary procedure(i.e. breast lift) is performed at the same time.
BREAST AUGMENTATION RECOVERY
The typical breast augmentation recovery period is 2-4 weeks, and many of our patients return to work 3-5 days after their surgery; however, you should not try to rush your recovery, and should avoid any physical activities that could raise your pulse or blood pressure significantly, or which involve strenuous use of your chest and arm muscles. You will be able to see the results of your breast augmentation procedure immediately following your surgery, and as the swelling and bruising subsides over the next few weeks, these results will continue to improve.
Dr. Esmailian is a double board certified plastic surgeon who focuses on providing superior patient care, and who makes it a priority to stay informed about the most cutting edge developments in the field of breast surgery. Supported by a compassionate and competent staff, Dr. Esmailian will work tirelessly to ensure that your breast augmentation experience is as safe and comfortable as possible.
